YOUR CUP IS NOW HOME COMPOSTABLE

Recycle or compost our new cup for hot drinks.

So what's changed?
  • Mineral-based lining

While other disposable cups are coated on the inside with plastic, we use Qwarzo® - a mineral-based material that fulfils a similar barrier function.

  • New paper lid

Our new lid is made from cellulose fibres instead of plastic. To ensure that it keeps its shape while you enjoy your hot drink, we have given it the same Qwarzo® coating as our new hot drinks cup.

  • Wood fibres from Northern Europe

We source the cardboard used for our new cup from Metsä. It is produced from traceable fresh wood fibres from northern European forests.

Developed in partnership with
  • Transcend Packaging Ltd.

The new packaging solutions are manufactured using state-of-the-art technology by Transcend Packaging Ltd. in Wales, UK.

  • Qwarzo®

Coated with Qwarzo®, an innovative mineral-based alternative that has replaced our old plastic coating.

  • Metsä

Made with fresh wood fibres from traceable forestry in northern European forests.

SECURING SUSTAINABLE FUTURE OF COFFEE

Taking care of the environment is imperative to the future of coffee and coffee farmers, and to the world we live in.

At Starbucks, we believe in the importance of caring for our planet and working with and encouraging others to do the same. As a company that relies on an agricultural product, it makes good business sense. And as people living in the world, it is simply the right thing to do.

We’re proud to be developing more environmentally friendly solutions and working hard to expand our existing programs in an effort to minimize our environmental footprint and tackle climate change.

    Returnable Cup Program

The program allows our customers to opt for a reusable in the same way they would a single use cup. Without needing to remember to bring their own cup, customers can ask for their beverage to be served in a reusable cup for a deposit of 2,50€ when ordering at the till.
